Wear Bright and Patterned Tights

Choose subtle colours

If you have a feeling you won’t be able to pull off trendy bright fuchsia or lime-green tights, opt for subtler colours like plum and khaki. You’ll still be sporting the hottest look this season, but in a more demure way. Why not take a look at Wolford’s Velvet De Luxe tights which come with gorgeous aubergine and rhododendron options.

Just show a glimpse

If you love the patterned tights look but are worried it might be too overpowering, why not ease yourself into the trend by wearing patterned tights under skirts and boots. This is a great look, especially for autumn and winter – try the latest geometric designs for a cosy, pretty look. Gerbe’s Voilette tights are a hit for when you need to fill the gap between skirt and boots.

Wear them under trousers

You don’t have to wear skirts to wear bright or patterned hosiery. The latest knee highs and ankle highs worn with trousers look just as striking – especially when worn with killer heels! Pretty round toed shoes, court shoes, slingbacks and strappy sandals are excellent choices for this look as they allow colours and patterns to show through. Interested? Layer up

Why not wear two hot trends at once? Slip some sexy fishnets over bright tights for a great, unique look. Large mesh fishnets like Jonathan Aston Stringers Tights are perfect for layering. Jonathan Aston also have 40 Denier Opaque Tights which come in eight sizzling colours including Candy Pink, Hot Orange and Royal Blue.

Keep clothes simple

The secret to preventing a busy, clashing look is to keep your clothes simple and let your tights take centre stage. For example, if you’re wearing tights with a geometric design, don’t ruin the look by adding any kind of pattern in the rest of your outfit.

Look Fabulous in White

1. White reflects light so wherever you wear it you will bring attention. Having said that, if you have any body parts you don’t want to appear larger don’t accentuate that area by adorning it in white and wearing a dark color next to it. What you can do is wear white from head- to- toe so no particular area has focus. For example, if you have large hips don’t wear white bottoms with a dark top because the eye will be drawn to the bottom. Instead, wear a white top and white pants and use accessories to take the focus away from the problem area. Or wear white on top and black on the bottom.

2. Wear black and white combinations with accessories to create impact. Wear a white skirt with a black top, black shoes, white handbag, and a black/white necklace. Handbags and scarves that have a black and white pattern will also bring some pizzazz. Experiment.

3. To change your look, wear white with bright colors such as pink and green. Again, choose accessories that will add interest. A pink or green bag, pink jewelry, pink shoes etc. You can also try 3 color combinations such as pink/black/white green/black/white or red/black/white.

4. Wear white only until the end of the summer season and don’t wear white to a wedding unless you are the bride.

5. Wear white T-shirts with jeans and choose a finer fabric to wear with suits for a more professional look. When you wear whites pay attention to your undergarments – avoid lacy bras – choose to wear nudes, they will not show under white.

About Workplace Wardrobe

We all want to look good but there is a right and a wrong way to go about it at the office. When you go for an interview, as nervous as you might be, make sure you take note of your surroundings. What are people wearing? The first few days of your new job, dress conservatively until you figure out the work “uniform.” Trust me on this, you will not start a new office dress trend by wearing something considered outlandish by current office standards. While none of us wants to be a conformist, there is moderation and then there is downright career suicide dressing.

While we all want to be individuals, a lot can be taken from Chanel’s famous quote, “be a caterpillar by day and a butterfly at night.” I cannot tell you how many times I have remarked “That is a cute outfit but why is she wearing it in the office. It is great for clubbing.” And you know your wardrobe is too over the top when the men in the office are commenting about the inappropriateness of the attire. You should never be the water cooler gossip subject when it comes to fashion.

The Rules of the Road:

  1. Determine what the “code” is in the office.
  2. Go through your wardrobe and see what base pieces you have that fit within that code. If you don’t have enough pieces to go a week, you may need to pump up your wardrobe. You want to be consistent. You don’t want to dress within the code one day and then wear something opposite the next. It gives the impression that you are not serious about your job.
  3. Clothing should never be tight ANYWHERE.
  4. Dress as if you already have that next promotion. In other words, dress for success. What are those above you in the corporate structure wearing?
  5. Make sure your grooming is consistent with the wardrobe. Hair, nails, and accessories are just as important as the clothes. Give yourself a visual check in the mirror before you leave the house. You never want to overhear someone saying “Didn’t he/she look in the mirror this morning?”

So how do you retain your personality without being the talk of the office?

  1. Add your personality with the colors you wear. Wearing basic neutral colors like black does not mean you can’t spruce it up with a touch of your favorite color in your shirt, scarf, jewelry or tie.
  2. Accessorize to bring out your personality. That little handbag that says “this is me!” is a great way to insert yourself into the office “uniform.”
  3. Add texture. Basic does not mean boring. Suede, corduroy, flowing fabrics, etc. can give a basic skirt design a lift.

Stylist, Indra Books, got her start early in life. At the age of 10 she started sewing with her mother and grandmother. By age, 12 she had won her first sewing competition and by 14 was making theatre costumes. After choosing not to pursue a career in the fashion industry, Indra continued to design gowns for friends and family including her own wedding dress and bridesmaids gowns. Twenty years after her mother told her to move to NYC to become a personal shopper, she opened her own life management business(ON THE GO 4 U) with personal shopping as one of the services provided.

Take Care of Sheep Skin Boots

Keep in mind that sheep skin boots are made from an animal’s skin, and animals do get exposed to the elements. They get wet and dirty and they recover from this exposure to the elements, so it is safe to assume that your new boots can be safely cleaned as well. Boots made from a sheep’s skin are in some ways delicate, and they can be easily damaged by chemicals or by scratches and other types of abrasions. To maintain that expensive, soft look of the sheep skin, never use inappropriate chemicals when cleaning. And always use soft rags that will not scratch or otherwise damage the surface of the boots.

The first thing you should do after purchasing a pair of sheep skin boots is to apply a spray sealant type product to the boot. Be sure to follow the product’s directions for use. Taking this step is more of a preventative measure. It will offer a certain degree of protection by blocking soil and water from penetrating into the sheep skin.

When you do need to clean your sheep skin boots start by using a soft brush or a soft, dry cloth. Apply light pressure and simply try to buff out the stain. If that approach does not work, you can purchase a cleaning product that is recommended for wool. The cleaning product use instructions may or may not require the product to be mixed with lukewarm water. Always read the label first and proceed as instructed. Shoe stores are a good place to locate an appropriate cleaning product to use on sheep skin boots. Searching the Internet is another good way to locate an appropriate cleaning product . If using the Internet, just be sure to take whatever steps are necessary to protect your credit card information.

Once you have successfully finished cleaning your sheep skin boots, they will need to dry. You should never use or expose your boots to extreme heat sources when drying. In the path of direct sunlight, in front of a crackling fire or heater or inside a dryer are the places where these boots should never be allowed to roam. Exposing your boots to these extreme sources of heat likely will cause significant as well as permanent damage to the delicate sheep skin. Instead, find a nice shady spot to place your boots so that they can air dry naturally.

Care for Lambswool

What to avoid

There are two main types of ingredient that may result in the deterioration of a Lambswool cardigan or wool sweater washed under incorrect conditions:

Sorry, but it gets a little technical from here on.

Biological Detergents

In addition to the normal surfactants, emulsifiers, perfumes etc contained in ordinary detergents, the so-called ‘bio’ detergents also include a small quantity of enzymes. These are protein digesting biological catalysts, and are effective at decomposing stains or soiling in which protinaceous material is the main constituent. Egg, blood, and most other food stains etc are all protein based and will be effectively removed by enzyme-containing detergents.

The problem is that like fur and hair, the histological structure of the fibre in Lambswool cardigans and sweaters is based on the polypeptide and disulphide linked protein Keratin. This can itself be affected by the biological components in some of these detergents. It is possible that enzymes may attack the cell membrane complex of the wool fibres, and lead to disintegration of the structure into its component cortical cells, this leads to a hole filled Lambswool garment.

Bleaches and Bleach Activators

In order to increase their apparent cleansing efficiency, some washing powders include bleaches or ‘bleach activators’. These are usually of an oxidative nature, though can also be reductive. Again, because of Lambswool and wool’s inherently natural characteristics, the fibre can be damaged by strong solutions in these bleach-containing powders.

More often than not, these types of washing powders will cause fading of colour to Lambswool cardigans and sweaters, even erosion of the fibre cuticle and a corresponding deterioration in resilience and strength.

About Dress Your Jeans

For low-waist jeans, use navel diamonds and gems to accentuate a cute belly-button. You can also wrap silver chain-belts around your tummy, to shimmer while you dance “the bump”. For a totally 70’s look, add on colorful bangles and large hoop rings. For capris, wear anklets – either a slim gold chain to accent a trim ankle or ethnic beads for a “beach-babe” look. You can also add hip body bags for a sportier look. For cargos, those handy Swiss knives bring action to your jeans, as do large backpacks. You can also wear Buddha beads which bring luck for extreme adventures. For high-waist pants, use large dark-colored snakeskin belts to hide the height of the waist. Never use bright colored or diamond belts – it’ll grab all the attention. For tattered or ripped jeans, wear kerchief belts for a handy-man look. You can also position a kerchief in your backpocket to call attention to a sexy bottom. Don’t use overpolished accessories with the grunge look such as diamond or leather belts – it’s an extreme combination. For loose or baggy jeans, more oversized chains clipped from the belt-line to your pocket give you a “gangsta” look. So do vintage pocket-watches, which bring out the “hip-hop” style. And if you’re in for the “chicano” look, wear plaids as well as bandanas or hairnets. For cigarette pants, use “l-mac” (colored-transparent plastic) belts for a “be-bop” look. Gold or silver jewelry and fancy anklets can also dress up your jeans. never wear anything ethnic – it ruins the polished style.

Fashionable With Women’s Flipflops

No self respecting fashionista is going to be caught dead in her flipflops without a perfect pedicure. If you’d rather pay for your new sandals over a professional pedicure, do it yourself.

Fill a bowl with warm, soapy water and soak your feet for about 10 – 15 minutes each. A few drops of peppermint oil will give your feet a beautiful burst of vitality, or try lavender oil or ylang ylang for relaxation.

While your feet are still damp and warm, gently buff your heels and soles with a pumice stone to remove dead skin cells. Then rinse in cool water and apply lashings of your favorite moisturizer. I prefer a thick, lanolin-based cream for extra oomph. If you’re not out to impress anyone at bed time, apply an extra layer of moisturizer and put on a pair of cotton socks overnight.

French manicured toenails are hot right now. Get yourself a French manicure kit for saucy, sexy toenails or go all out with magenta red or soft pink polish.

Then you’re ready to display your new tootsies to the world. Grab your favorite flipflops and get out there girl!

Celtic Jewelry

Celtic Cross Jewelry

One of the most enduring, and coveted “gifts” of Celtic culture is jewelry featuring the Celtic Cross. According to Irish legend, St. Patrick created the first Celtic cross by drawing a circle over a Latin cross.

For an Irish Catholic, the circle in the Celtic cross may be a symbol of eternity and the endlessness of God’s love. It can even represent a halo emanating from Christ.

Some say the four “arms” of the Celtic Cross represent the elements (fire, earth, air, and water). Others believe the cross denotes the four directions of the compass, and still others feel it is a representation of human existence – mind, body, soul and heart.

Celtic Knots

The most distinguishing characteristic of Celtic knots is their intricate patterns and design…and the debate as to the meaning of those designs. While it is unquestionable that many of the ancient designs had some significance, those meanings changed from tribe to tribe and location to location.

Many believe that the intricate looping in knots was a way to keep out evil spirits. It is also generally accepted that the looping Celtic knot design denotes eternity and interconnectedness. Still, there is no definitive guide as to the meaning of Celtic knots which, adds, perhaps to their mystery and appeal.

Claddagh Rings

Named for the town of Claddagh near Galway in which they are said to have originated, Claddagh rings are beloved Celtic symbols of Irish culture and sentiment. Unlike other Celtic symbols, the meaning behind the Claddagh ring is well-documented. The Claddagh design has a heart (symbolizing love) topped by a crown (symbolizing loyalty) held in two hands (signifying friendship). The phrase that is usually associated with the giving of a Claddagh ring is “Let love and friendship reign.”

It’s not surprise that the Claddagh is a popular marriage band. In Celtic times, it was worn on the right hand with the heart turned outward to show that the wearer is unattached or with the heart turned inward to show he/she was “spoken for.” If the Claddagh ring is worn on the left hand with the heart turned inward, it shows that two loves have been joined in marriage.

Celtic Then and Now

At one time, Celtic people could be found throughout Eastern and Central Europe, as well as in the British Isles, where the earliest examples of Celtic jewelry originate. The emergence of the powerful Roman Empire encroached on the lifestyle, traditions, and homeland of the Celts who were forced to move to abandon their homes and relocate in remote areas in Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and Cornwall in southern England.
